Hypnodrone Ensemble

Canadian experimental guitarists Aidan Baker (of Nadja) & Eric Quach (aka Thisquietarmy) formed Hypnodrone Ensemble in Berlin, Germany in 2014 to explore, with the accompaniment of multiple drummers, drones and polyrhythms. Members of the project regularly rotate, but recently participating drummers include Angela Martinez Muñoz (also of nunofyrbeeswax, Tavare), Sara Neidorf (also of Aptera, Mellowdeath), and Fiona McKenzie (also of Halma).

The project creates music that combines atmospheric, shoegazery textures with motorik, propulsive beats for immersive, psychedelic performances. Their live, self-titled debut came out in 2014 on Consouling Sounds, in conjunction with an appearance at Incubate Festival in Tilburg, NL, followed by their studio-recorded full-length, The Shape of Space, the following year. Plays Orchestral Favourites, recorded as an expanded 9-piece ensemble, came out in 2018, followed by Gets Polyamorous in 2020, both on Wolves & Vibrancy.

Their newest album The Problem Is In The Sender - Do Not Tamper With The Receiver will be released in summer 2024 on Wolves & Vibrancy (LP), WV Sorcerer (CD), and Katuktu Collective and Cruel Nature Recordings (Cassette). The ensemble includes Angela Martinez Muñoz, Fiona McKenzie, Sara Neidorf on drums, and Gareth Sweeney on bass, also featuring a special vocal appearance from Lane Shi Otayonii. If you're drawn to a blend of space-rock-infused shoegaze with mystical and ethereal vocals, this captivating album is a must-have for your collection.

The group has performed and toured extensively in Europe, including appearances at such festivals as Borsig Ampfest, Psych In Bloom, Beautés Soniques, and supporting such bands as Zu, MoE, and Sun Worship.

Review Quotes: * "[T]hunderous polyrhythmically driven rock ensemble." - The Wire (May 2022, Issue 459) * "(A)s experimental as it gets, brimming with space rock synths and drones that enlarge and expand, gradually engulfing the listener." - Astral Noize * "(D)rones gradually worming their way into the conscience amid a soothing bath of synthesisers and rock-steady drums; Pink Floyd would be proud." - Invicta Magazine

NaraBara

Born from the nightclubs and livehouses of Beijing, China, NaraBara is a musical collective blending the complex harmonies and intricate rhythms of jazz with the mystical storytelling and atmospheric qualities of Mongolian folk. Yider, the producer and vocalist, has enlisted keyboardist Asr, guitarist Suoty, and drummer Zhitong Xu to combine their years of technical craft in a soundscape rooted deeply in disciplined energy and textural layering. The band’s debut album, “Hamt Zamin Hümüs,” is set to be released on the 19th of June 2023. The album release will be concurrent with a European tour helmed by EBB Music.

“Hamt Zamin Hümüs” sees Yider return to his musical and cultural roots; a reconnection with his inner self and the indescribably curious feeling that first brought music into his heart growing up as a child in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia. Showcasing their ability to bridge traditional instrumentation with modern aesthetics, the band seamlessly interlays the standard stage setup of keys, bass, and drums with the Guembri from Morocco, the Ngoni from West Africa, and the Morin Khuur from Mongolia. The final result is a Mongolian- sung, jazz-fused synergy that embodies the name of the album “Companions”, a boundary-breaking, creative collaboration amongst friends and musicians who are constantly finding inspiration within each other.
